We had the opportunity to chat with a few of our customers about their experience receiving or gifting one of our personalized designs. Next up in the series: Tommy.
Tommy gifted his friends, Paul & Helen, a Spiral Song Lyric print as their Wedding Gift. In his words, “I was getting tired of buying wine glasses or trash cans for my friends.”
The Wedding Song
Tommy set out to find something different. When he stumbled across our Spiral Song Lyric print, he contacted Helen’s sister to ask what the wedding song would be.
The gift that Ashley [& Eric] offers is just so special.
“It incorporates the elements of the location and the stars — how they looked in the universe that night — and the first dance, the song lyrics written around that,” Tommy said. “It was just the perfect gift for them, and so I couldn’t have asked for a better find when I just haphazardly typed in ‘personalized wedding gifts.’”
Tommy has a long history with the bride and groom. While Tommy and Paul went to high school together, they didn’t become friends until much later.
“After college, we were all living in D.C. at the time, and I became friends with Helen,” Tommy said. “Helen was actually matched with Paul at another one of our friend’s weddings. And that was seven years ago.”
For Tommy, reconnecting with Paul through Helen was a “small world moment” which led to a beautiful friendship with the both of them.
“They make you feel so at ease. Like you’re at home with them,” Tommy said. “The relationship felt very familiar from the moment I met Helen.
Going the extra mile
“And because of that, I really wanted to go the extra mile and give her and Paul a meaningful gift that they would cherish long after the initial unwrapping of the present.”
Once the design was created and shipped to Paul and Helen in Washington, D.C., Tommy received a “thank you” note in the mail shortly after.
“Helen said she was moved to tears when opening it, just because it reminded her so much of her wedding day,” Tommy said.
Paul and Helen’s wedding day was special, Tommy said, from the location itself — a yearly vacation spot for Helen’s family — to the beach ceremony at sunset, to the ambience overall.
“You just felt the love. It’s hard to describe,” Tommy said. “It was so thoughtful.”
Tommy even got to experience some of his own nostalgia when the best men gave their speech about Paul, the groom, whom Tommy has known since adolescence.
“They went on for about twenty minutes, the two best men, telling stories from his childhood,” Tommy said. “Which was really cool because I knew him back in high school. So I was able to truly step into those memories that they were sharing.”
A lasting feeling of love
The homey feeling that Paul and Helen bring to their friendships was extended to all their guests on the couple’s wedding day, leaving a lasting feeling of love for everyone who was a part of the event.
“We just danced all night,” Tommy said. “It was a homecoming for all of us.”
